Our Canada vs Morocco prediction: Canada to win.

Canada Preview

Canada happens to be one of the lowest-ranked countries in Qatar, but after their exploits in qualification they were ranked as high as 40th, which is the highest that they have ever been. This Canada team is young, full of talent, and hungry for success on the world stage, and they showed in their opening match against Belgium, which they lost 1-0, that they are definitely no mugs out there on the field. In fact, they outplayed their much-vaunted opposition for large parts of the game and will be mythed as to how to how they did not come away with at least a draw to their name.

Those who did some football betting on outright World Cup markets before the tournament started might have put their money on Canada to finish bottom of the group, but after their recent showing against Belgium, they could cause Croatia and Morocco a number of issues in their remaining two group games.

Canada World Cup History

This will be just the second time that Canada have made it to the WC Finals, with their last appearance in this prestigious competition coming way back in 1986. However, they performed poorly at this tournament in Mexico, leaving the competition in the group stage after failing to score a goal or pick up a single point. If they carry on playing like they did against Belgium, they should definitely at least score a number of goals.

While the majority of the other nations will have to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, Canada will be at two World Cups in a row since they will be hosting the next tournament alongside Mexico and the USA. So, they can use this competition to give their youngster the experience of playing at the top level, and then they can try and take on the world again in 2026. If they carry on improving as they have been, there will be plenty of football predictions predicting them to win some matches.

Qualification and Road to the World Cup 2022

Ahead of the CONCACAF qualifying fixtures, Canada were ranked a lowly 73rd, and this meant that they had to go through a total of three qualifying rounds in order to book themselves a spot at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. This meant that they had to play 20 matches to qualify, although they breezed through the opening round. They then had to take on Haiti a two-legged play-off for the right to compete in Round Three.

They were expected to struggle in this final round of qualifiers since they had to play the likes of USA, Mexico, and Costa Rica, but they made a mockery of such predictions by going unbeaten over their first 11 games. Then they picked up a historic win against Mexico, which saw the, top the table on goal difference and book their spot at a World Cup for the first time in close to four decades.

Canada Players to Watch

While Canada have plenty of quality in their ranks, you have probably only heard of a few of them. Below are three Canadian players to keep an eye on in 2022.

  • Jonathan David: The Lille striker has been in prolific form in Ligue One, scoring five goals in eight games for his club. When it comes to international football, his scoring record is more impressive with 22 goals from the 35 matches that he has played – this included 9 goals throughout their qualifying campaign. He will be Canada’s main goal threat, and anyone of a Canadian persuasion will be hoping he keeps his shooting boots on
  • Alphonso Davies: Every team has a talisman and Davies is Canada’s best player by some distance. He plays his club football with Bayern Munich as a full back, but when he is playing for his country he plays higher up the pitch so that they an make use of his great technical ability and pace. He can also find the back of the net too as can be seen from the fact that he has scored 12 goals in the 32 international matches that he has played. If Canada defy the odds and make it out of the group, he will have played a big role
  • Lucas Cavallini: Every team needs experience in big competitions, and Cavallini is the wise head for this Canadian team. He is an effective and strong striker who has found the back of the net 17 times in the 32 matches that he has played, which means he is averaging a goal every two matches. He will be under pressure to find the back of the net for the Canadians at Qatar, and we are looking forward to seeing how he plays in Qatar

Morocco Preview

Morocco are ranked 20 places higher than the Canadians according to the FIFA World Rankings, and they are considered to be the second best African team at the competition behind Senegal.

The team from North Africa have been in really good form lately too, having lost just two of their previous matches going back to the 6th of October last year. This streak of good form has included a run to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 African Cup of Nations and, obviously, successfully qualifying for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

However, ahead of the World Cup, they took on the United States in Cincinnati in June, and they went on to lose 3-0, which was a big wake-up call for them. If they want to get out of the group in Qatar, they will need to play at their best form.

Morocco World Cup History

This will be the sixth time that Morocco have made it to a World Cup, but it is the first time that they have qualified for the biggest football tournament in the world since 1998. Morocco were not allowed to take part in 1958 since was still a part of France, while they failed to qualify until 1970. Their first appearance at a World Cup was a brief one as they were eliminated in the Group Stage, and were not seen at a World Cup again until Mexico 1986.

In Mexico, Morocco picked up their first win of the competition by beating Portugal 3-1, and they made it to the Round of 16 where they were knocked out by West Germany. Since then, they have made it to the 1994, 1998, and 2018 editions of the World Cup, but they did not progress out of the Group Stage in any of these competitions. They will be looking to at least equal their best run of reaching the Round of 16 this time around.

Qualification and Road to the World Cup 2022

Morocco was ranked as the 41st best team in the world and the fifth best African team ahead of the CAF qualifying draw, which meant that they got a bye into the Second Round. They powered through this qualification round, topping Group I by winning all six games, scoring 20 goals and only conceding once. In the Third Round, Morocco took on the DR Congo and won 5-2 over two legs, drawing the first leg 1-1 and winning the second leg with a 4-1 scoreline.

Below are the matches that Morocco played in order to book their spot at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar:

Date Match Final Score Winner
2nd September 2021 Morocco vs Sudan 2-0 Morocco
6th October 2021 Morocco vs Guinea-Bissau 5-0 Morocco
9th October 2021 Guinea-Bissau vs Morocco 0-3 Morocco
12th October 2021 Guinea vs Morocco 1-4 Morocco
12th November 2021 Sudan vs Morocco 0-3 Morocco
16th November 2021 Morocco vs Guinea 3-0 Morocco
25th March 2022 DR Congo vs Morocco 1-1 Draw
29th March 2022 Morocco vs DR Congo 4-1 Morocco

Morocco Players to Watch

Morocco’s players play across Europe, playing in countries such as France, Turkey, Belgium, and England. But which Morocco players should you keep an eye on when they play this winter? Well, our Canada vs Morocco prediction should help you out with that one:

  • Hakim Ziyech: While his career at Chelsea might have stalled a bit, he is still a really talented player with a wand for a left foot. He has established himself as a very important player for Morocco, scoring 17 goals in the 42 matches that he has played for them. In 374 club matches, he has found the back of the net 110 times, so he will certainly be a player that Morocco will be leaning on to help them qualify for the next round
  • Achraf Hakimi: Very few 23-year-olds have played for top clubs such as Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. Despite playing in a defensive position, he loves to bomb forward and has an eye for goal, with eight international goals to his name to date. He also has plenty of experience playing against the best players in the world, so he will not be phased by the quality strikers he encounters in Qatar
  • Youssef En-Nesyri: The Morocco squad is not full of goals, but one player who can find the back of the net is Seville striker Youssef En-Nesyri. The 25-year-old has 14 international goals to his name, and he is blessed with both strength and pace. He will be looking to leave a mark on this World Cup, and we are looking forward to seeing how he performs against some of the world’s best defenders

Who Will Win? Canada vs Morocco Prediction

Online sports betting is never easy, and this is another match that is hard to call. Morocco has more experience than Canada and will probably appreciate the heat more, but Canada has plenty of ambition and their young side have shown that they can compete against some of the best sides in the world.

With Canada having talent such as Davies and David, they probably have a bigger goal threat than their North African opponents, and they will fancy their odds of going on and picking up a World Cup win. Whether this will be enough for them to qualify, we will need to wait and see, but our World Cup betting prediction is for the Canadians to win.

Our Canada vs Morocco prediction: Canada to win.

Our Canada vs Morocco Betting Tips

What are some World Cup tips that we can give you for this match? Well, considering the lack of firepower that Morocco have and the wastefulness of Canada in front of goal at times, we think you should consider putting your money on Under 2.5 goals, which can be backed at odds 1.59.
